How to use the site
SWAG & USAGE is a place and a portal. As a place, SWAG & USAGE is a site where you can find information about grammar, punctuation, style, and usage. Your writing style (or SWAG) is determined by your understanding and mastery of grammar, punctuation, style, and usage. In order to have style or swag, you have to learn, understand, and master the rules and concepts of writing. This site is a place where you can find the information to do that. This site is also a portal: a gateway to other places (websites) where you can find more information and do practice exercises. Explore and export: Use this site as a means of learning and understanding, and then export your knowledge to your own writing, other people, and other places.
Step One: LearnUse this site and the sites hyperlinked here to learn the rules of grammar, punctuation, style, and usage. Test your knowledge by completing the exercises on the sites that are linked to SWAG & USAGE.

STEP TWO: UnderstandLearning the rules of correct grammar, punctuation, style, and usage is one thing, but understanding them is often another thing. In order to understand the rules of writing, you must understand why and how these rules work. Consider the WHY and HOW as you complete practice exercises.

Step Three: masterAs you learn and understand correct grammar, punctuation, style, and usage, develop your own writing style by composing sentences, paragraphs, and other pieces in which you adhere to and consciously bend or break the formal rules of writing. Remember to consider WHY and HOW writing works.
